The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ has recently completed maintenance and development on a number of roads in Hazm Al Markhiya and Lejbailat areas, within the framework contracts for road maintenance in the country.
Ashghal entrusted the works to local contractors, as multiple teams worked to complete the project works within 7 months instead of 12, and five months ahead of schedule. These works included paving, marking, maintenance and rehabilitation of the asphalt layer for about 21 km of internal roads in both Hazm Al Markhiya and Lejbailat areas, using Qatari-manufactured materials.

In line with Ashghal's strategy, which aims to achieve excellence in delivering and managing efficient and sustainable infrastructure to contribute to the achievement of the Qatar National Vision 2030, the Road Operation and Maintenance Department has invested in the latest road surveying technologies. Such technologies are developed to meet the future requirements of the state related to providing sustainable solutions for the operation and maintenance of road networks.
This vehicle is used in the process of receiving road assets from contractors to ensure the road's condition and compliance with the standard specifications and its readiness to serve road users. It is used to examine the asphalt layer and discovering surface defects such as cracks, drilling and landing and IRI testing in an automatic way and analysing it to ensure the level of roads quality.

The Tilted Intersection will include a signalized roundabout, which is a different design from the usual roundabouts. Rawdat Rashed Road Development Project aims to provide a safe, highly-developed road to link Salwa Road with Dukhan Highway. opened on Saturday 14 April 2018 Bani Hajer Interchange that will
provide free flow traffic between Doha, Dukhan, Bani Hajer and Al
Rayyan.
Having a vital location, Ashghal converted Bani Hajer roundabout into a
three-level interchange to create free movement to approximately 1500
vehicles per hour. As a result, the junction has become a key access
point for three major arteries of Khalifa Avenue, Dukhan road, and Al
Rayyan road along with the populated areas around.

Located between Al Gharafa & Madinat Khalifa, the new bridge will be
a vital part of Qatar expressway network. By linking Al Gharafa &
Madinat Khalifa directly without the need to travel through Al Shamal
Road, it will reduce the traffic congestion on the Umm Lekhba
Interchange (Landmark Interchange) & Al Gharafa Interchange
(Passports Interchange).
The bridge was built in about 5 nights using advanced engineering
techniques to reduce the construction time, the impact on traffic in the
work area, and to ensure the safety of road users and workers. The
works were carried out at night to reduce traffic disturbance as much as
possible and ensure safety of road users and workers.

Main Road:
Traffic was moved to the main carriageway of Lusail Expressway along the whole road from its start in West Bay area until its end at Lusail City, which includes four lanes in each direction.
Bridges:
- Al Gassar Interchange bridge opened completely to traffic with a length of 600 metres and three lanes in each direction, which connects Onaiza Street and the Cultural Village “Katara” area in both directions.
- Also all lanes of the north and south canal crossings opened to traffic, where the North Canal Crossing includes 8 lanes in each direction while the South Canal Crossing includes 6 lanes in each direction.
- All four bridges included in the project have been completely opened to traffic, whereas the bridge at Interchange 5/6 was opened end of May 2017.
Tunnels:
- All lanes in both directions at the Pearl Interchange Tunnel opened to traffic, which connects Lusail Expressway to Lusail City. The length of the tunnel is about 700 metres and includes four lanes in each direction.
- The tunnel at Interchange 5/6 also opened, with a length of 500 metres, connecting Al Istiqlal Street and Lusail Expressway, and includes three lanes in each direction.
- One of Al Gassar Interchange tunnels opened, connecting Lusail Expressway for those coming from West Bay heading left to Onazia Street, and the tunnel includes two lanes in one direction, with a length of 600 metres.
- Eight tunnels are now open to traffic out of nine included in the project, where the main tunnel at Al Gassar Interchange opened end of March 2017.

The Public Works Authority is currently implementing Al Khor Expressway
Project, which is one of the key projects of the Expressway Programme.
The 34 Kilometer highway runs from approximate southern extent of the
Doha Golf Club and the northern limit is up to Al Bayt Stadium which is
currently being constructed in close proximity to Al Khor City entrance.
The Project works includes the construction of dual five-lane
carriageway in addition to 10 grade-separated interchanges, fast cycling
lane and shared path for both pedestrian and cyclists.
Traffic Diversion on Al Khor Coastal Road to enable construction works
of AL Khor Expressway Project:
To enable construction works of 3 major interchanges, about nine
kilometers section of Al Khor Coastal Road will be closed starting from
Semaisma Interchange up to the end of the project to the North. This
closure has been implemented in coordination with the General
Directorate of Traffic and will start on Friday, 13 October 2017 and
last for a duration of 18 months.
During the closure, road users that currently use Al Khor Coastal
Highway to travel between Semaisma interchange and Al Khor City, will be
required to use Semaisma road, North Road, and Al Khor Road to reach
their respective destination

The southern part of

completely in both directions, will serve the southern areas that are

The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ opens Phase 1 of the New Orbital Highway and Truck Route. Phase 1 included the opening of a 125 km long route road extending from Hamad Port to Al Shamal Road reaching Lusail and Al Khor.
Ashghal has accelerated the construction works to complete the road ahead of schedule due to its importance. The newly opened part of the Orbital Highway connects directly between Hamad Port, Industrial area, Salwa Road, Dukhan Highway and North Road to the city of Lusail and Al Khor, which will improve goods traffic from the south to the north of the country, especially as the port will accommodate about 2500 trucks per day

Ashghal opened recently Dukhan Highway – Central that extends from
Al Wajba to Al Sheehaniya and provides 19 km of a new developed road.
The
road also provides 4 lanes in each direction, which is double the
number of lanes previously, in addition to providing 20 km of cycle
paths.
3 roundabouts on Dukhan Highway were converted to
free-flow interchanges to absorb current and future traffic volumes, and
facilitate access to Qatar Mall, Al Rufaa Halls and other facilities in
the area.
Landscaping works have started recently in the project and planned to be completed end of 2017

Ashghal
opened Al Khaleej Al Gharbi flyover part of Al Khaleej Al Gharbi
Interchange (3 level interchange on 26 May 2017. The 400m flyover will
provide three lanes, and deliver free flow traffic from Lusail
Expressway directly into West Bay.

The Barwa – Al Mashaf Road, opened on 8 May 2017, connects Al Wakra,
Al Wukair and Al Mashaf areas, and goes from Barwa Housing Roundabout
up to the F-Ring Road and Doha.
Phase I of the project included the
opening of Barwa – Al Mashaf Road in the direction from Al Wakra and Al
Mashaf to the F-Ring Road, in addition to opening a newly built road
with two lanes heading from the intersection north of Al Wakra Hospital
Roundabout to just before the intersection of Barwa – Al Mashaf Road
with Ras Bu Fentas Street. Also the lane turning right onto F-Ring Road
was widened to cater for the traffic increase.
Phase I also included
opening the other direction of Barwa- Al Mashaf Road heading from west
of Barwa Housing to Al Wakra, Al Wukair and Al Mashaf areas.
The
second phase of the project will include building a roundabout at the
entrance of Barwa Village to facilitate entering and exiting Al Wakra.
The road linking Al Wakra Club Roundabout with the beginning of the
newly built road that connects to Barwa – Al Mashaf Road will also be
widened to two lanes, in addition to widening the road linking Al Wakra
Hospital Roundabout with the same point at the beginning of the newly
built road, to include two lanes, as shown in the attached map. Works on
this phase of the project will be completed end of May 2017

The G-Ring Road is one of the key axis of Qatar's expressway network.
Being a fast road that provides an uninterrupted traffic flow, it will
have a significant positive impact on the traffic movement in the
country’s Southern areas. It will also contribute to reducing pressure
on existing roads in other areas; thus complementing the other axes of
the expressway network, of which several parts will be opened to traffic
throughout the coming months.
The G-Ring Road extends over 22
kilometres from Hamad International Airport to the Orbital Highway, and
includes five lanes in each direction and 48 km of pedestrians and
cyclists lanes, surrounded by landscaping. The total cost of the G-Ring
Road project is approximately 4 billion Qatari Riyals.
The G-Ring
Road was opened to traffic on 22 April 2017, including the five lanes
and parts of its main interchanges. The remaining works, which comprise
parts of the eight interchanges of the project, are scheduled to be
completed by the end of July 2017

Lusail Expressway is one of the key projects of the Expressway Programme
that the Public Works Authority is implementing. It is located in a
vital area that connects Doha with Lusail City, and covers many public
destinations such as the Pearl in the north, via Katara and the
Diplomatic Area, and a big number of residential areas, hotels, malls
and other facilities.
The project work area stretches over 5.5
kilometre from Lusail City in the north to the West Bay area in the
south. The project works include three main multi-level interchanges,
which are the Pearl Interchange, Onaiza Interchange, and West Bay
Interchange, in addition to two marine bridges over the South and North
Canal Crossings near the Pearl and Lusail City. The project also
comprises 6.5 kilometres of separate pedestrians and cyclists paths.
The Main Tunnel in Onaiza Interchange was opened today 1 April as Part of Lusail Expressway.

As part of its efforts to enhance road safety across Qatar, The Public
Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ completed on Saturday 11 February 2017 the
installation of the steel structure of the pedestrian bridge on E- Ring
Road, which is located between Al-Thumama Intersection and the
intersection between Airport Street and E-Ring Road.
The bridge aims
to minimise accidents and enable pedestrians to cross the E-Ring Road
and reach commercial establishments in the area. This is in addition to
facilitating access between the residents of Old Airport (Area 45) and
Al Rawda “Thumama” (Area 47).
The pedestrian bridge, which is 66-m
long and 4 m wide, is equipped with elevators on both sides which can
accommodate a large number of users including those with special needs.
The bridge is also equipped with lighting systems, a closed-circuit
television system (CCTV), fire detection and firefighting systems, as
well as a pedestrian counter.
Ashghal continues the implementation of mechanical and engineering works in order to open the bridge to users in Q2 2017.

The project includes the construction of a new dual carriageway
extending from west of the existing Al Wajba Interchange and concluding
one km east of Al Sheehaniya town. The project encompasses approximately
19 km of four lanes in each direction dual carriageway with hard
shoulders and grade separated interchanges.
The project will
improve traffic between Dukhan and central Doha; add additional lanes in
each direction for more reliable and safer journeys, and will segregate
highway traffic from local traffic through the construction of
grade-separated junctions. Pedestrian footpaths and cycle ways will also
be provided as part of the project.

The NCC Bridge, which was partially (2 Lanes in each direction) opened by Ashghal on Friday 18 Nov. 2016, is located between Lusail City & north of the Pearl Interchange.
The opened part of NCC Bridge will reduce travel times to residential and commercial developments in Legtaifiya area and will provide easy access to Lusail City and north areas of Qatar.

Izghawa Interchange: is regarded as a key connection in a populated area
since it consists of three graded levels, ranging from a single to four
lanes in each direction besides a light signal.
The new junction
will make alternative access roads available from Lusail City to
Izghawa area into Al Shamal Road, supposed to be the main route to
commercial projects there.
Bridge linking Al Huwaila road to
the North Road, Lehwaila Interchange is composed of two separate levels
with two and three lanes in each direction.
Umm Slal Mohammed
Interchange: is composed of two separate levels, including a dual main
bridge with two lanes in each direction and an additional lane for
turning towards the ramps, and two light signals.
The intersection is a key connection for the residents in the vital and jammed neighbourhood of Umm Slal Mohammed.
North
Road Enhancement Project: the North Road Enhancement project comprises
the construction of service roads along the North Road, starting from Al
Duhail Interchange to Al Shamal city.
The project is designed to
enhance the connection with the new development projects near the
highway, comprises the construction of two new interchanges in Izghawa

The East Corridor project, which is the eastern section of the East-West Corridor, is one of the key projects implemented by the Public Works Authority under its Expressway Programme. Rawdat Rashed Road Development Project aims to provide a network of safe
and developed roads to link Salwa Road with Dukhan Highway, in addition
to increasing the road capacity by increasing the number of lanes and
allocating the right lane for heavy vehicles. This is addition to
providing high-tech lighting systems which will ensure traffic safety
for road users and will serve the citizens and residents in this area.
The project will also link the current and future developments to key
areas in the country; providing a comprehensive future coverage of all
roads in the vital areas of the country.
The Public Works
Authority ‘Ashghal’ completed the first and second phases of the
project, stretching for 20 kilometres, and opened the road to traffic on
the morning of Sunday 23 October 2016. The two phases included the
construction of a road consisting of three lanes in each direction. In
phase 1, the road stretches from Salwa Road for a distance of 8.5 km
towards the north, and intersects with the main roundabout that connects
the southern side of Rawdat Rashid Village. Phase 2 starts from the end
of phase one towards the north for a distance of 12 km bypassing Rawdat
Rashed Village. In addition, eight intersections (roundabouts) were
constructed within the two phases.

Al
Khor Commercial Street Development Project aims to enhance traffic flow

Project works included developing the existing 5.5km
long street and widening its lane widths to a range of 16 to 40m, in
addition to constructing comprehensive service roads with additional car
parking areas for the owners and visitors of commercial establishments.
The project also included the construction of safe entrances and exits,
sidewalks, and medians in addition to installation of lighting system
and 4 new signalised intersections were implemented. majority of
development works in Al Khor Commercial Street were completed and the
street was completely open to traffic on Monday 10 October 2016.

Converting the Civil Defence Roundabout to a signal-controlled
intersection included widening all streets leading to the intersection
to become four lanes instead of three, as well as relocating utilities
including power, sewerage and drainage lines. Works also included
widening the Medical City Intersection by adding a third lane to turn

This project is part of the Expressway Programme and comprises 15 km of eight lane (four lanes in each direction) dual carriageway with hard shoulders and grade-separated interchanges to replace the existing two-lane dual carriageway.
Local traffic movement will be catered for by a single service road along both sides of the main carriageway.
Celebration Road and Military Road are also being constructed as part of this project.
Three interchanges with underpasses will also help traffic flow in the area.

The F-Ring Road is part of the Expressway Programme and is a new road between Al Muntazah Street and Al Matar Street providing access to the new Doha International Airport.
The project includes the construction of a new 8.7 km expressway comprising of six to eight lanes (three to four lanes in each direction) divided by a median with ramps and service roads at the Intersections.

The project is located in zone 46. The work comprises of site clearance, surface and foul water drainage, earthworks, granular sub-base, asphalt works, kerbstone, footways, underground service utilities, such as water works, electricity, street lightings, Q-tel, property connections and foul water network, irrigation, design and built of pump station and installing traffic signals.

This project is part of the Expressway Programme. Salwa Road Phase 2 works include the construction of approximately 7km of dual carriageway road along the alignment of the existing Salwa Road. The mainline will consist of eight lanes (four lanes in each direction, separated by a median) with continuous service roads. There are 4 two level interchanges included along this section with the mainline of Salwa Road placed as an underpass beneath the cross roads.
Four upgraded interchanges with underpasses will help improve traffic flow around the area:
•Ain Khalid Interchange
•Al Aziziya Interchange
•Wholesale Market Interchange
•Al Bustan Interchange
Other features includes a new positive storm water drainage system, 2.2 km micro-tunnels, surface water force main, firefighting system for underpasses, foul water, treated sewage effluent networks, potable water networks, electrical networks, electrical HV, MV, LV and substations, telecommunication network Q-Tel, Doha city surveillance system, Qatar Armed Forces, roadway lighting, traffic signs, road markings and intelligent transport system.
