The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announced the commencement of developing the road network linking Al Khor Road with a length of 28 km, and converting 7 temporary roads into new permanent roads that provide greater capacity and traffic flow in all directions.
The seven roads are located in Wadi Al Banat, Rawdat Al Hamama, Tinbek, and Umm Garn, in addition to developing three roads in Al Daayen. The new roads will be expanded to two and three lanes in each direction instead of one, which will increase the roads capacity to 8,000 vehicles per hour and contribute to reducing the travel time between these areas.
In addition to the expansion works, the roads will be linked to infrastructure networks services such as drainage networks, rainwater drainage networks, potable water networks, in addition to communication networks, electricity and street lighting. The new road design also includes green spaces and extended afforestation on most parts of the road.
Upon its completion in 2022, the development works will achieve a great flow in the area, as these roads will connect Al Khor Road to the residential areas adjacent to it, such as Rawdat Al Hamama, Wadi Al Banat, Al Kheesa, Al Daayen, Umm Garn and Tinbek, as well as facilitating access to sports facilities and recreational facilities in the area.
Traffic Diversion
To allow the implementation of the road development work between Al Khor Road and Rawdat Al Hamama area, the Public Works Authority will temporarily close a part of the road linking Al Ebb Street and Rawdat Al Hamama area for a distance of 3 km, where the road will be closed to traffic coming from Al Tarfa Street and Al Ebb Street in the direction of Rawdat Al Hamama and vice versa, as of Sunday 06 September 2020, for a period of eight months.
During the closure period, those coming from Al Tarfa Street in the direction of Rawdat Al Hamama can turn right to Al Ebb Street and use Wadi AlBanat intersection on Al Khor Road, or turn left and use Street 245, known as Arab League Street, to reach its destination.
Road users coming from Al Majd Road in the direction of Rawdat Al Hamama area can use Rawdat Al Hamama intersection on Al Khor Road to reach their destination.
The Public Works Authority will install sufficient road signage to alert road users with this diversion. In order to ensure safety of all, commutes need to abide by the speed limit of 50km/hour and follow the road signage.
