The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ opens Phase 1 of the New Orbital Highway and Truck Route. Phase 1 included the opening of a 125 km long route road extending from Hamad Port to Al Shamal Road reaching Lusail and Al Khor. Ashghal has accelerated the construction works to complete the road ahead of schedule due to its importance. The newly opened part of the Orbital Highway connects directly between Hamad Port, Industrial area, Salwa Road, Dukhan Highway and North Road to the city of Lusail and Al Khor, which will improve goods traffic from the south to the north of the country, especially as the port will accommodate about 2500 trucks per day

The project is on the southwest of Doha and provides a new dual carriageway connecting New Doha Port and Al Wakra bypass, with other phases of the New Orbital Highway. The cross section of roads will provide four lanes in each direction with the provision of two future lanes.
The video shows that the required equipment and machinery have mobilized for the screening and crushing plants. Traffic detours on Mesaieed Road are in progress along with road works. The new Orbital Highway and Truck Route "Orbital", featured in this video will serve to divert traffic of heavy vehicles from the center of Doha to the outer areas and it will significantly transform road travel within Qatar.
Contract 2 encompasses approximately 48 km new dual carriageway that includes eight grade-separated interchanges consisting of 7 lanes in each direction. It is located to the west and north of Doha City, starting at Salwa Road, passing through Dukhan Road and North Road, and up to the North Relief Road. This new road forms part of the New Orbital Highway that connects the south and north of Qatar, creating a free flowing traffic route without the need to travel through Doha City.
The video shows workmen busy laying the foundation works for one of many bridges on one of the eight interchanges. We can also see heavy machinery excavating, clearing away the old road material to lay the utilities pipes and then the asphalt. We can also see how the precast concrete sections of the bridges are being lifted to be transported and installed. The video also shows the noticeable progress made on this contract
