Opening two new expressways in the southern area

16 August 2017
Ashghal announced the opening of the southern part of Doha Express Highway and Hamad Port Road. These projects fall under the expressway projects that were opened recently to traffic and form vital parts of the expressway network to serve all areas in the country, including projects that serve the southern areas such as Al Wakra, Al Wukair and Al Mashaf. The project is located to the west of Al Wakra, and includes the construction of an approximately 11Km dual carriageway with five lanes in each direction. It starts at Al Mashaf Road and stretches to Mesaieed Road, creating the main bypass to Al Wakra city. The project also includes the construction of a tunnel and five two-level interchanges that will link the south of Al Wakra city to the Hamad International Airport and New Doha port.
This project will create a free flowing road connecting Mesaieed and Al Wakra areas directly to Doha city eliminating the need to travel through Al Wakra city, in addition to increasing the road capacity.
The video shows excavation works as well as bridge construction works that are progressing with considerable efforts. We can also see bridge piers of one of the bridges that will be built on this project and temporary support structures being installed for the formation of crossing bridges. The video also shows workmen busy laying the foundation works for the bridge and bridge decks
